Gallery 305 presents Boxed In, a solo exhibition by Haitian-American artist Jean Patrick Icart-Pierre, opening September 9 and continuing through November 27, 2026.

In Boxed In, Icart-Pierre transforms discarded Nike and Air Jordan shoe boxes into monumental human silhouettes. Cut apart, reconstructed and assembled into bodies, the familiar packaging moves beyond its commercial function and becomes a material for examining identity, aspiration, consumption and value.

February | Black History Month

This series is about how these children were known through media, records, and institutions, not through personal memory. Their images circulated publicly as information—newspaper photographs, case files, broadcasts, and archives—rather than as lives held privately or personally. This work begins from that condition and refuses to correct it through sentiment or illusion.

This exhibition features two Haitian artists united by their devotion to La Sirèn, the Vodou
mermaid spirit of the sea. At its heart is Valris, a master of the beaded drapo Vodou. His
shimmering creations use glass beads and sequins to evoke La Sirèn’s dual nature: the
seductive glint of the ocean’s surface and the profound mysteries lurking beneath.
